Independent Writer and Editor


I began freelancing right after graduating from college, working as a local news reporter for 3 years in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Wanting a change of scenery, I eventually moved from Michigan to Boston, where I enjoyed a 6-year career in marketing (see below). Now, I'm back to the life I love as an independent writer and editor,  currently writing and editing for local marketing agencies, publishing companies, and other small firms and startups. I feel privileged to work with each of my current clients, and am always excited to hear about projects from new prospects. 

Marketing Director

Feb. 2016-Sept. 2016

During my time as the Marketing Director at FE International, a small business brokerage, I mainly worked on the inbound strategy, in addition to social media and email marketing. While there, I boosted total goal conversion rate by 678%; organic traffic by 20% and time on page by 450%, compared to the previous year's metrics in Google Analytics. 

Senior Creative Manager

April 2015-Jan. 2016

At Social Fulcrum, a boutique ad agency, I established a creative department within the firm, as we were finding that clients were just as interested in having beautiful, well-written ad creative as they were in getting the team's expert analytical advice. I worked with a variety of clients, delivering portfolios of copy and images designed to be tested in SF's proprietary method that allowed clients to determine their most effective ad creative. 

Senior Editor

March 2012-April 2015

As an editor at Brafton, I was in charge of the Health, Lifestyles and Education desk, where I managed content production for a variety of companies, including 3 labels of a well-known fashion brand, 7 brands under a major consumer products corporation, and a multinational food manufacturer. I also managed a team of 15 full-time writers and regularly contributed to the company's popular blog.

Health Writer

Dec. 2010-March 2012

Content marketing as we know it was in its nascent stages when I started at Brafton as a writer in 2010, but the transition from a keyword-focused technique to a sophisticated strategy was swift. In just a little over a year, I went from writing short posts for company news feeds to writing a whitepaper on continuing education for diabetes care, a food encyclopedia for a multinational food manufacturer, and a 40 weeks of pregnancy series for a women's health website.

Content Marketing Instructor

Fall 2015

I taught a 3-series course at Startup Institute Boston on content marketing as part of its Fall 2015 class. Along with a co-instructor, I explained the basics of Google Analytics, keyword research, content writing, and SEO. Additionally, I advised students on their own personal branding and career paths, and had some wonderful, productive discussions with the students.
